Interesting info on Sand Hill Turquoise
Updated: Jan 12
I stumbled upon this turquoise by accident and fell in love with it. It has the most beautiful soft pale blue color with such interesting earthy colored matrix. It often has emerald green and light green hues as well.
Origin of this turquoise
This Turquoise was mined in China and is produced at the bottom of the lower Cambrian siliceous rock and stone coal bed. This turquoise mine is located in the east extension of the Hubei and Shaanxi metallogenic belts that extend east to Renyu, China. Unfortunately this mine was quickly depleted and is no longer mined. What's floating around is all there is unless a new mine deposit is discovered.
Caring for Sand Hill Turquoise Jewelry
As with all jewelry it is advised that it not be worn in the water. Pieces should also NOT be exposed to any kinds of chemicals. Exposure to chemicals in soap, household cleaning products, and others can damage the stone. Silver does have a tendency too dull after wearing so a paste of baking soda and Windex can be made, then rubbed on the silver and rinse with water. This mild concoction removes the sweat, lotions and gunk our hands get into each day. This is NOT to be used on the stone.
Healing Properties of Turquoise
The Turquoise stone has long been prized as a powerful talisman with healing properties. It is believed that turquoise can help balance the blue throat chakra, enhancing the ability to communicate while increasing resistance to viruses, helping to relieve sore throats and allergies.
